FULLY ALIVE

Ken Davis is an excellent and successful motivational speaker. He tells how he was comfortable being comfortable, looking towards retirement, leisure, and golf. However, God started putting stakes in the ground in Ken's life to help him realize he did not have a passion for Living. Many of us only see these "landmarks" when we reach the end of ourselves, and we can only weep and pray.

Many of us start getting old instead of growing old. Instead, we stop Living and start coasting. Ben Franklin said, "Many people die at twenty-five and aren't buried until they are seventy-five".

Apparently God used Ken's lost granddaughter and a photo of them at the beach to help him realize he definitely was NOT Fully Alive, he was more like a beached whale. That phrase he came to realize involved making positive choices and changes, nothing held back. "Pain is a sign of life-maybe even getting banged up. Sitting and eating potato chips on the couch watching TV is not Fully Alive."

His first step was to determine to have a positive attitude towards his goal of a thinner, healthier body. Attitude will launch your dreams or bury them- fly or crash. Ken said, "No matter how old you are, no matter your past circumstances, physical condition, you can live Fully Alive, starting today. It takes commitment and perserverance. There will be pain, but it can happen, I know it happened to me".

Fear of failure will affect your ability to go forward to your goal. Give it your best shot, learn from your mistakes. Andy Andrews said, "You will fail-do it quickly, then go on". Your attitude determines your actions, actions determine your accomplishments. To get in better health requires getting your body in motion, one day at a time, one pound at a time. A body in motion tends to stay in motion. A body at rest tends to rest in peace. What will you choose? Your health affects everything-be it spiritual, mental, as well as relationships. Be prepared for possible failure and pain, that is part of living. Both failing and pain is the way to learn, get back on track! Remember, the only people who do not fail and do not feel pain are people lying in an open box at the front of a church.

Courageous people who choose to be better, and live Fully Alive, do so many times in the face of incredible odds. Doctors do not know what God has in His plans. Question those that tell you, you cannot do something. Ken gives several examples of friends, who against all odds, persevered and committed themselves until they reached their goals. Many times doctors destroy hope, but trying is never a failure. Henry Ford said, "Whether you think you can, or can't, you are right".

This is an excellent book, not just to motivate people to move and get healthy, but Ken actually lived it. I highly recommend it!
